Access 2 Independence

October = National Disability Employment Awareness Month

October 1, 2009 · 1 Comment

Happy October everyone! Did you know that this month is National Disability Employment Awareness Month?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy:

Congress designated each October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The Office of Disability Employment Policy has the lead in planning NDEAM activities and materials to increase the public’s awareness of the contributions and skills of American workers with disabilities. Various programs carried out throughout the month also highlight the specific employment barriers that still need to be addressed and removed.

In the spirit of this month, Access 2 Independence will be busy promoting awareness about employment and disability in our community. We want to take this opportunity to stress for better competitive employment for people with disabilities with our:

  • Poster campaign: We have tons of awesome posters for NDEAM. Feel free to stop by our center to pick some up!
  • PATV 18 show: Keith Ruff and Abbey Almelien will be taping this month’s show focused on NDEAM.

Feel free to share your thoughts about this year’s NDEAM theme in our comments!

    Staff,

Keep up the good work. I think that the Newsletter is a good start. It is a good reminder also of events coming up like the October being
Disability Employment Awareness Month. I wish somehow we could call it something more
like Everyone can be employed month or something like that.

Anyway, see you at the Thanksgiving Dinner.

    Keep it up
    Mary Milder
