Self-advocacy means speaking up for what you want or need. This session will introduce participants to the concept of self-advocacy and help participants understand how they might advocate for themselves in the future. Participants will learn:
- How to identify issues in which they may choose to advocate for themselves or others
- Their rights and responsibilities as a person with a disability
- Strategies for setting and completing a self-advocacy goal
- Strategies for working through barriers and challenges related to self-advocacy
- Self-care related to self-advocacy
All workshops are free; there is no cost to attend. Workshops are intended for individuals who self-identify as having a disability, mental health condition, and/or chronic health condition (rather than family members or service providers). Attendees must live in one of the 8 eastern Iowa counties we serve (Benton, Cedar, Jones, Henry, Johnson, Linn, Iowa, or Washington county).
This is a hybrid workshop. That means participants are welcome to attend in-person OR online. Advanced registration is required for all participants regardless of attendance format.
